Karlovy Vary 2006: Emerging Eastern European talents (part 1)
Karlovy Vary Film Festival 2006Every year in July, the Karlovy Vary Film Festival is the place to be for the Eastern European filmmaking community, and over the years the festival in the Czech spa town of the same name (better known as Carlsbad in English) has grown to become the world's most important showcase of Eastern European cinema. It has two main competitive sections: the Official Competition for international premieres and the East of the West section, in which the year's best productions from Eastern Europe vie for the top prize. Several sidebars also showed Eastern European works. The editor of european-films.net, Boyd van Hoeij was in Carlsbad this year and highlights some of the worthwhile titles from Europe's Orient, including films from emerging filmmakers from Russia, Romania, Hungary and Bulgaria. PT: Diários da Bósnia: Ensaio sobre as memórias
Vitor Pinto looks at Joaquim Sapinho's Bosnia Diaries, a documentary that successfully plays around with everyone's memories of the Balkan's war.

Patricio Guzman afirmou um dia que um país sem documentário é como uma família sem álbum de fotografias. Embora, ao afirmá-lo, guardasse na sua mente o seu Chile natal, violado pela ditadura do General Pinochet, a citação pode aplicar-se a uma série de outros contextos. Recentemente estreado nos écrans portugueses, "Diários da Bósnia" é um documentário de Joaquim Sapinho, que se assume como o relato de uma incurssão pessoal num cenário de pós-guerra, onde o legado da destruição se filma lado a lado com a esperança ténue da regeneração. Retrato parcial de uma guerra da qual já havíamos perdido a memória.
