FILM OF THE WEEK
INTERVIEW

The Career Golden Lion of this year's Venice Film Festival will go to David Lynch, the Montana-born director of classics such as The Elephant Man, Blue Velvet and, more recently, Mulholland Dr. Lynch was nominated -- but never won -- for a Best Director Oscar for all three films. His distinct style has lead to creation of the adjective Lynchian, much used by film critics around the world. His film Wild at Heart won the Golden Palm at Cannes in 1990, and Mulholland Dr. won him the Best Director honours at the same festival in 2001. He was the head of the Venice Festival jury in 1994.
