The 2006 nominations for the Swedish National Film Prizes, the Guldbagge, have been announced, with three films taking the lead. Jesper Ganslandt's debut feature Farväl Falkenberg (Falkenberg Farewell); Ylva Gustavsson and Catti Edfeldt’s hip youngster musical Förortsungar (Kidz in da Hood) and Anders Nilsson’s thriller När mörkret faller (When Darkness Falls) each received a total of four nominations, with all being Best Director and Best Original Screenplay nominees and the first two also Best Feature nominees. The third Best Feature nominee is the Mårlind-Stein stylish psychological thriller Storm. Falkenberg premiered at the Venice Days in september, while Förortsungar and När mörkret faller will be part of the upcoming Berlinale line-up.

När mörkret faller was also nominated in the Best Actress category for Oldoz Javidi, while 2007 Swedish Shooting Star Gustaf Skarsgård is a Best Actor nominee for his role in Förortsungar. Peter Engman was nominated in the Best Supporting Actor for När mörkret faller, as was David Johnson (pictured), for Farväl Falkenberg. Best Documentary nominees include Alice och jag (Alice and I) from Rebecka Rasmusson; Jag minns Håkan Alexandersson (I Remember Håkan Alexandersson) from Carl Johan de Geer and Åsa Blanck and Johan Palmgren's Vikarien (The Substitute).

Best Foreign Film nominees were the US title Babel, Pedro Almodóvar's Spanish paean to women Volver and Germany's unflinching look at a Stasi officer called Das Leben der Anderen (The Lives of Others), from first time director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck. A full list of nominees in all categories is available online here. The Guldbagge ("Golden Beetle") will be handed out on January 22, 2007 at the Stockholm Circus.
