The urban family musical Förortsungar (Kidz in da Hood) from directors Catti Edfeldt and Ylva Gustavsson swept the Swedish national film prizes, the Guldbagge, not only winning the Best Feature category, but also winning Best Director, Best Actor for 2007 Shooting Star Gustaf Skarsgård and Best Screenplay for Ylva Gustavsson and Hans Renhäll, thus cashing in on its four nominations, with colleagues Farväl Falkenberg (Falkenberg Farewell), a melancholic goodbye to youth, and the thriller När mörkret faller (When Darkness Falls) going home empty-handed, though both also went into the race with four nominations. Haddy Jallow won the Best Actress category for her role as Fatou in Säg att du älskar mig (Say That You Love Me), with the supporting categories going to Lia Boysen in Sök (Search) and Anders A. Rosendahl for his role in Hemligheten (The Secret). Åsa Blanck and Johan Palmgren won the Best Documentary category for their Vikarien (The Substitute), a look at the life of a substitute teacher. Best Foreign Film went to Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck's Stasi-investigation Das Leben der Anderen (The Lives of Others), which just received an Oscar nomination in the same category yesterday. Winning film Förortsungar will be screened as part of the Generation sidebar at the upcoming Berlin Film Festival, so expect a review of that film on european-films.net to appear during that time. A full list of Guldbagge winners is available online at website of the Swedish Film Institute. |
