Karlovy Vary Competition includes Ozpetek, Becker and Kormákur PDF Print E-mail

Saturno controThe Karlovy Vary Film Festival has revealed its full competition slate for its 42nd edition. The A-list festival in the Czech Republic has a total of 14 titles in  its main competition and another 15 titles in its East of the West showcase. Notable competition titles include Ferzan Ozpetek's Saturno contro (Saturn in Opposition) with Margherita Buy and Pierfrancesco Favino; Jean Becker's Dialogue avec mon jardinier (Dialogue with My Gardener) with Daniel Auteuil and Jean-Pierre Darroussin; Baltasar Kormákur's Icelandic noir Mýrin (Jar City); the Norwegian Kunsten å tenke negativt (The Art of Negative Thinking) from director Bård Breien and the Spanish Pudor from Tristán and David Ulloa. 
 
Earlier announced titles for its 2007 edition include local monster hit Vratné lahve (Empties) from Jan Svěrák and Krzysztof Krauze's Polish drama Plac Zbawiciela (Saviour's Square). Tom DiCillo's US title Delirious will play out of competition.
 
The competitive East of the West section includes several titles with previous festival play, including Venice's Svobodnoje plavanije (Free Floating) from Russia; Berlin's Serbian title Klopka (The Trap) and Croatian title Armin and Cannes' California Dreamin' (Nesfarsit) from Romania, which won the top prize in the Un certain regard section.
 
Further noteworthy titles include Estonian film Klass (The Class) from Ilmar Raag, Tumšie brieži (The Dark Deer) from neighbouring Latvia; Igor Ivanov's Macedonian Upside Down and the Hungarian tone poem Boldog új élet (Happy New Life) from debuting director Árpád Bogdán. The festival runs from June 29-July 7 in the Czech spa town of the same name.
