Beste zeit - trailerMore trailers have been added to european-films.net. First up is the upcoming coming-of-age story Beste Zeit (lit. The Best of Times), the new film from the young and prolific German director Marcus H. Rossenmüller. His bobsleigh comedy Schwere Jungs (Heavyweights) premiered only six months ago, while his latest film is scheduled for a July release in Germany. Beste Zeit is the third feature film of the director who shot to fame with the unexpected success of his debut, the Bavarian funeral comedy Wer früher stirbt, ist länger tot (Grave Decisions). Beste Zeit stars Anna Maria Sturm and Rosalie Thomas as two 17-year-old Bavarian girls who struggle with love and whether they should stay or leave their heimat to find happiness. The second feature as a director of popular Spanish actor Antonio Banderas is the Spanish-language El camino de los ingleses (Summer Rain), which won the Europa Cinemas Label at the Berlin Film Festival. It is also a coming-of-age story, though not set in contemporary Bavaria but in the 1970s and in Banderas's city of birth Málaga, in the Spanish South. That adolescents are not the only ones that need to grow up can be gleaned from the trailer of the French drama Mon fils à moi (My Son) from Martial Fougeron. The film stars Nathalie Baye (Michou d'Auber) as a mother who literally smothers her young son with love. Mon fils à moi won the top prize at the 2006 San Sebastian Film Festival, came out in France in March, is currently playing in Belgium and Luxembourg and will premiere in the Netherlands in July. More sons care in trouble in the Norwegian drama Sønner (Sons), which also premiered at San Sebastian in 2006. The film, an impressive debut from director Erik Richter Strand, premiered in Norway in September and is currently making the festival rounds. Told with thriller elements as well as heartwrenching drama, Sønner tells the story of a young man's hunt for a paedophile. Go to the Norwegian trailer of Sønner (Sons).

Last but not least, in anticipation of our upcoming Romanian Online Film Week, we have added the trailer for the Romanian Un certain regard winner California Dreamin' (Nesfarsit) (California Dreamin' (Endless)), the posthumous debut of Cristian Nemescu. The film is partially in English and stars Armand Assante and Jamie Elman as two US soldiers who, at the height of the Kosovo War, are stuck in a Romanian hamlet when the local station master decides not to let their train convoy pass. California dreamin' (Nesfarsit) was uncompleted at the time of the director's death and was released earlier this month in Romania  as the fairly long rough cut the director left behind.
