VolverAn overview of interesting European film-related articles published elsewhere on the web.

  • Nathaniel R of The Film Experience closely investigates the first fifteen minutes of Pedro Almodóvar's Volver and finds out that a surprising amount of kissing is going on. Related: the Spanish director talks with Time Out about the stage adaptation of his Oscar-winning Todo sobre mi madre (All About My Mother), which will premiere at the Old Vic in London on Saturday (via movie city news).
  • Italian director Giuseppe Tornatore, who directed the Oscar-winning Cinema Paradiso as well as the recent Italian awards magnet La sconosciuta (The Unknown Woman), has been mugged and subsequently hospitalised in Rome. The BBC has got the full story.
  • Swedish director Josef Fares, who got a jump on the current glut of films dealing with immigrants and immigration issues years ago with comedies such as Jalla! Jalla! and Kopps before turning more serious in the children's tale Zozo, has secretly made a new project called Leo. Variety has the scant details available for the moment.
  • Agnès Poirier blogs at the Guardian about the current success of foreign-language films in the UK as a reaction on an earlier article in the Independent. Seen that films from the US are still the most watched in the UK, Poirier's title "Ever been duped into seeing a foreign film?" seems to reflect the fully symbiotic integration of US and UK culture into a whole.
  • Two trailers for upcoming Venice Film Festival titles are up over at our French colleagues of Allocine: the trailer for Eric Rohmer's Les amours d'Astrée et Céladon and for Woody Allen's UK production Cassandra's Dream (click on "lancer la vidéo" halfway down the page).
  • Behind the scenes material and interview videos are available at makingofeuropa.net of Diego Fandos's Cosmos and Davide Barletti and Lorenzo Conte's Fine pena mai.
