EFA European Discovery AwardAs part of the European Film Awards (EFAs) handed out each year, the European Film Academy also awards a European Discovery Award, their prize for the best first feature film. This year's nominees are four, chosen from an initial selection of 63. They are Bikur ha-tizmoret (The Band’s Visit) from Israeli director Eran Kolirin; Control, a UK-Australian co-production directed by Dutch photographer-turned-filmmaker Anton Corbijn; Gegenüber (Counterparts) from German director Jan Bonny and Takva (A Man's Fear of God), a Turkish-German co-production directed by Özer Kiziltan. The first three nominees all premiered at Cannes earlier this year, while the latter had its European premiere at the Berlinale after its world premiere in Toronto.

The initial selection was made by a committee made up of Fipresci critics and representatives of the European Film Academy, while the winners will be chosen by the 1800 members of the Academy, like all the other EFAs.

The winner of the European Discovery Award will be announced at the 20th European Film Awards ceremony on December 1 in the German capital Berlin, the seat of the European Film Academy that hosts the EFA gala every other year. Last year's European Discovery Award winner was the French-Georgian production 13 Tzameti from Gela Babluani.
