Persepolis interviewAn overview of interesting European film-related articles published elsewhere on the web.

  • Indiewire interviews Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud, the directors of the animated Persepolis, based on Satrapi's comic-book memoirs about growing up in Iran. Martin Grove at the Hollywood Reporter looks at its Oscar prospects and places it on his top ten list.
  • Very technical but a good read nonetheless: American Cinematographer speaks with director of photography Seamus McGarvey about shooting Atonement, including that breathtaking tracking shot on Dunkirk beach.
  • Director Terry Gilliam has started shooting in London on his new film The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, which stars Christoffer Plummer as the Doctor who can guide people's imaginations and co-stars Heath Ledger, Tom Waits and 2008 UK Shooting Star Andrew Garfield. Film Ick has the first two photos of what looks like a very Gilliamesque piece of production design. (via Twitch)
  • Might things be moving on Lars von Trier's upcoming horror film Antichrist (currently still in development hell, so to speak)? Twitch's Todd Brown tries to read the tea leaves.
  • Cineuropa has a new Film Focus online for Benoît Mariage's comedy Cowboy with namesake Benoît Poelvoorde in the lead. The film is currently on Belgian and French screens.
  • Making-of website makingofeuropea.net has added behind-the-scenes material and interviews for two new features: for José Antonio Quirós's Cenizas del cielo ("Ashes from the Sky") with Celso Bugallo and for Crista Graf's Aids in Rwanda documentary Memory Books.
