Swedish Guldbagge awards go to 'Living', 'Knight Templar' PDF Print E-mail

Du levande - You the Living GuldbaggeThe national Swedish filmprizes, the Guldbagge or Golden Beetle Awards, were handed out in Stockholm last night. The prizes went to both the high- and lowbrow, with arthouse favourite Roy Andersson taking home the Best Film, Best Screenplay and Best Director Guldbagge for his tragicomic Du levande (You, the Living), while the local crusades-era blockbuster Arn -- Tempelriddaren (Arn -- The Knight Templar) went home with the Best Actress in a Supporting Role Guldbagge for Bibi Andersson, the Audience Award and special achievement awards for Costume Design and Stunts. A third achievement award went to the team responsible for the casting of the Finno-Swedish coming-of-age story Kid Svensk (That Special Summer).

The other acting awards went to Sofia Ledarp for her leading role in Den man älskar (To Love Someone), Michael Segerström for his leading role in Darling and Hassan Brijany for his supporting role in Ett öga rött (One Eye Red). The Best Cinematography Guldbagge also went to Darling. Josef Fares's Leo, which will have its international premiere at the upcoming Berlinale, went home empty handed, despite nominations in key categories such as Best Film, Best Director and Best Actor.

The UK film This is England from Shane Meadows won the Best Foreign Film Guldbagge, while Maud Nycander's Nunnan (The Nun) won the Best Documentary category. The Lifetime Achievement Award went to actor Gösta Ekman, while screenwriter Ulf Stark was honoured for his extraordinary contribution to Swedish films for children.
